About the drone trial

Fisheries Queensland has partnered with Surf Life Saving Queensland to deliver the SharkSmart drone trial. This survey and quick poll closed at 3.00pm AEST on Wednesday 7 April 2021.

Thank you to everyone who provided feedback. All comments will be reviewed and considered as part of the SharkSmart drone trial evaluation.

Survey prize draw

The survey prize draw winners were randomly drawn on Thursday 8 April 2021. Congratulations to Margaret, Catherine and Adam who each won a Surf Life Saving Queensland beach pack valued at $79.90. Thank you to everyone who completed the survey and entered the prize draw.

Shark-spotting drones began monitoring five beaches in South East Queensland in September 2020:

  • Coolum North and Alexandra Headland Beach (Sunshine Coast)
  • Main Beach and Burleigh Beach (Gold Coast)
  • Main Beach and Cylinder Beach (North Stradbroke Island).

The SharkSmart drone trial may be extended to additional beaches in North Queensland and the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park during 2021. For more information visit the SharkSmart drone trial page.

Community feedback provided in the survey and quick poll will form part of our evaluation of the SharkSmart drone trial. It will also inform how we extend the trial to additional beaches.
