About the consultation

We are seeking your feedback on proposed management strategies and amendments to the T4 commercial trawl (fin fish) fishery

Fisheries Queensland held an online harvest strategy workshop for the commercial trawl fishery (fin fish) on 13 August 2021.

In the workshop, industry, government and conservation members discussed various management strategies to meet the fishery’s harvest strategy targets including:

  • a new independent observer protocol
  • transitioning existing trip limits into annual quotas
  • amending the fishery area to within 20 fathoms
  • introducing the southern fishery closure to legislation.

The discussion paper (also available to download from the document library, above) includes possible management measures to ensure sustainable management of the fishery in accordance with:

  • the fundamental principles of the Queensland Sustainable Fisheries Strategy: 2017-2027
  • the main objectives of theFisheries Act 1994
  • the Queensland Government's responsibility to ensure our public fishery resources are managed responsiblyand sustainably.

Feedback on the proposed management strategies and amendments will be considered alongside environmental, economic and social factors.
